CURTIS MCMANUS
The Age of Nihilism: an inquiry into the death of Western democracy or, the consequences of philosophy

Synopsis: In his spirited and thought-provoking third book The Age of Nihilism, Curtis R. McManus challenges the ideological orthodoxies of tolerance, progress, and social justice. Deploying sources from the twin disciplines of philosophy and literature, McManus argues that these "progressive" virtues are actually manifestations and expression-forms of a rampant and ubiquitous cultural nihilism which has entrenched itself deeply within the Western soul. In addition, McManus rejects the progressive view of history as ascendatory and instead argues that history must be understood in terms of cycles, a concept which clearly reveals that we are living at the end of an age.
Published in the spring of 2018, The Age of Nihilism rapidly achieved "#1 Best Seller" status in Canada. The Age of Nihilism was also featured on The John Gormley Show, and it has consistently received praise for the originality of its conception as well as its historical depth and lucidity.
Reviews
“I have rarely encountered a book this rich in language and so stunning in its conclusions. I read it. I re-read it. I read it again. If I did not agree with the author’s premises, I would have read it for the logic, and if I found fault in his logic, I would have still read it for the language.”
